How we work
We start with what you’re noticing, not with a menu. A pull to the right, a squeal at low speed, a light on the dash and a car that won’t start on cold mornings all point at different systems, and the first job is figuring out which one before anything gets replaced.
So the first visit for a problem is usually a diagnosis, not a repair. If it’s something you hear or feel while driving, we road test it. We put it up on the hoist. If a warning light is on, we connect a scan tool and read the stored codes instead of guessing at them.
Once we know what’s wrong, you get a price before any work starts.
Diagnosis before parts
Swapping parts until a symptom goes away gets expensive, and it isn’t diagnosis. That’s how people end up buying a battery when the problem was the alternator, or brake pads when the problem was a seized caliper.
We use Snap-on, Mac and OTC scan tools, which read live data and manufacturer specific codes, not just the generic codes a cheap reader shows. On mechanical problems the tool is only a starting point. A noise still has to be traced by hand, on a hoist, by a licensed technician who knows what that noise usually means.
When we don’t know yet what’s wrong, diagnostic time is $110 per hour, and we tell you that up front.
Engine and cabin air filters, old and newEstimates and approval
You see the estimate before the repair begins. It covers parts, labour and what the job involves, in words that make sense.
If we open something up and the job turns out bigger than we quoted, we stop and call you. You approve the new number or we put it back together. Nothing goes on your invoice without a conversation first.
When a diagnosis turns up several problems at once, we sort them into safety, reliability and things that can wait. You pick what gets done this visit.
Parts
We use OEM or OEM equivalent parts. On brakes and steering, we won’t quietly go cheap to save a few dollars on your behalf. If you’d like a different option on a particular job, tell us and we’ll talk it through.
Maintenance versus repair
Two kinds of visits come through the door. Maintenance is the scheduled work that keeps a car healthy, like oil, filters, tire rotation and seasonal changeovers. Repair is fixing something that has already gone wrong.
Maintenance is where you save money, because a fluid change costs a fraction of the repair that skipping it eventually causes. When you’re in for routine work, we look over the systems around it and tell you what we see, without turning that into a sales pitch.
What we service
All makes and models, domestic and import, older mechanical cars and newer computer controlled ones. Each service page covers what the job involves, how long it takes and what changes the answer. Start with auto repair if you’re not sure which one fits your car, or vehicle inspection if you want a full look at where the car stands.
If the car isn’t driveable, call before you drive it. We’ll tell you whether it’s safe to bring in or whether it should be towed.
