Auto Repair for Aylmer Drivers
Aylmer is the west sector of Gatineau and we are in the east end of Ottawa, so this is a genuine cross region drive rather than a quick errand. We are not going to pretend otherwise. What we can do is make the trip worth it by booking you properly, keeping the car for the day if that suits you, and speaking French while we do it.

Let us be straight about the distance
From Aylmer to Blackwell Street you are travelling the length of the Quebec side, crossing the river, and then crossing Ottawa from downtown to the east end. There is no version of that route that is short. Depending on which crossing you use and what hour you leave, it is roughly a half hour run when the roads are clear and considerably more when they are not.
Most Aylmer drivers have closer options and should use them for a simple oil change. We would rather say that here than have you arrive annoyed. What follows is why some people come anyway.
Why Aylmer customers still make the trip
The first reason is trust. People who have had a repair explained to them properly once tend not to want to start over with a new shop. If we have already diagnosed something on your car, we know its history, and that is worth a drive.
The second is the shape of the day. If you work in Ottawa, or you are coming into the city for anything else, the trip is already paid for. Drop the car in the morning, do whatever brought you across, collect it before six. That turns a long drive into no drive at all.
The third is bigger jobs. A brake job, a diagnostic chase on an intermittent electrical fault, suspension work after a rough spring, or anything that needs parts ordered is not a wait in the lobby job anyway. When the car is staying with us for the day, the distance stops mattering. Small jobs are where the drive hurts.
Because of all that, tell us when you book that you are coming from Aylmer. We will try to give you a morning slot and we will be honest about whether the work can realistically be finished the same day, so you are not making the trip twice.

The route, and why the crossing matters more from here
From Gatineau’s western sectors the temptation is to take the first crossing you reach. The Chaudiere and Alexandra crossings are close but they put you in the downtown core, and from there you still have the entire city to cross east on the 417. Continuing along the Quebec side to the Macdonald Cartier crossing, then King Edward to the 417 eastbound, generally puts you on the correct side of Ottawa sooner.
Once you are on the 417 eastbound you are looking for the Innes Road area. Blackwell Street is in the Sheffield Glen industrial pocket just behind Innes, so you are turning off a commercial strip into a row of industrial units rather than pulling up to a storefront.
Time of day dominates everything. Mid morning and early afternoon are calm. Between four and six the bridge queue and the 417 both work against you at once, which is a worse combination for you than for a driver from Hull or eastern Gatineau.
The December 1 deadline
Aylmer is in Quebec, so the Quebec winter tire requirement applies to you. Compliant winter tires are required on Quebec registered passenger vehicles from December 1 to March 15. There is no equivalent Ontario rule, and that mismatch shapes the whole region’s calendar.
Practically, it means you should not wait for weather. Ottawa side drivers book their changeover after the first real snowfall, which floods every shop in the region in late November and early December, exactly when your legal deadline lands. Book in October or the first half of November and the problem disappears. If you are already coming this far, a tire changeover on its own is a thin reason for the drive, so it is a good job to stack with something else you were going to have done. See tires.
If your winter set lives on its own rims, the swap is faster. If it does not, and you are replacing tires soon anyway, ask us about it before you buy rather than after.
What we do and what stays in Quebec
We handle repair and maintenance across all makes and models, domestic and import, with OEM or OEM equivalent parts and licensed technicians. Brakes, tires, oil and fluid service, diagnostics with Snap on, Mac and OTC scan tools, electrical faults, exhaust, engine and transmission work. See auto repair and car diagnostics.
What we will not claim is any authority over Quebec paperwork. Your SAAQ registration and any inspection Quebec requires of you belong on your side of the river with an agent authorized there. Confirm the requirement with the SAAQ before making a trip, so the drive is not wasted.
En francais, sans probleme
Aylmer is largely francophone and there is no reason to describe a strange noise in your second language. Explain it in French, get your answer in French, and get your written estimate before anything is touched.
Call (613) 321-7342, email ontherunautocare@gmail.com, or book online at any hour. We are open Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 6:00pm, and closed weekends, so plan the crossing accordingly.
Common questions
Is Aylmer too far to come for service?
It is a real trip, and for a routine oil change alone we would not ask you to make it. It makes sense when you already have a shop you trust, when you are heading into Ottawa anyway, or when you can leave the car for the day and collect it later. Those are honest reasons. Proximity is not one we can claim.
Which bridge should I take from Aylmer?
From Aylmer you are heading east along the Quebec side first, then choosing a crossing. The Chaudiere and Alexandra crossings drop you into the downtown core, which then leaves the whole city between you and us. The Macdonald Cartier crossing onto King Edward and then the 417 eastbound is generally the cleaner line to the east end. Off peak makes a large difference either way.
Do Quebec winter tire rules apply to me in Aylmer?
Yes. Aylmer is part of Gatineau and squarely in Quebec, so a passenger vehicle registered in Quebec needs compliant winter tires from December 1 to March 15. Ontario has no such law, which is why the Ottawa shops all get busy after the first snow rather than before the deadline.
Can you service a Quebec plated car?
Yes, for repair and maintenance. That has nothing to do with where the car is registered. Anything tied to your SAAQ registration file, or to a mechanical inspection Quebec requires, has to be handled in Quebec by an agent authorized there. We will not tell you otherwise.
Est ce qu'on peut se faire servir en francais?
Oui. Aylmer est majoritairement francophone et on vous sert en francais, autant pour expliquer le probleme que pour la soumission.

If you are not sure which service you need, describe what the car is doing and we will tell you what it needs looking at.
